Retirement Thoughts

Once you reach retirement, it may not be what you thought
it would be.

Feelings of depression might creep in.  The way to reverse this
feeling is to think about this new stage of life as new doors
opening, a time for learning new activities, or taking on new
adventures.  This will help us to have something to look forward to.

In addition, not having the work place to go to, might lead you
to feel bored or a feeling that you no longer have a purpose.

The important thing is to realize that you still have the energy
and intelligence to continue to contribute to your life and others.
At this point, relax and know you paid your dues.

The best way to get past these feeling is to start something new.

It can be difficult if you or your spouse becomes ill or if you
have to deal with a loss of a loved one. The best thing is to give
yourself plenty of time to look at your options.

Make time for your friends.  Develop new friendships, join civic
clubs and stay active.  This is good for your mind and emotional
well being.  Take your time because there are thousands of things
you can do.

There are also many support services that are available in your
area.  Most importantly, live your life regardless of what happens.

Stay active after retirement.  There are many activities to keep
you occupied.  Remember to have fun!

A Retirement Home?

A retirement home or village may be a great option when the
time comes to retire.

Retirement homes and village units can be very large and lavish,
while others might be smaller.  They may be set up lodge type
with apartments or rooms.

Your new home may be a resort like place with activities.  Some
are based around a lake and may have shopping and golfing
included.

The homes are generally 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with garages
priced from the low $300,000 and up.  You can find leases starting
from $1,100 and up a month.

Retirement homes are generally divided into three categories:
Active, Semi-Active and Assisted.

Active means the residents are physically fit and can take
care of themselves.  Active homes provide amenities such as golfing,
boating etc.

Semi-active are where residents that are still independent
but may need assistance or want a medical source on hand.

Assisted living is when assistance is needed in everyday
life activities and full medical care is provided on a daily basis.

If you are factoring in a retirement home or village into your
retirement planning, look at all of your options; costs, location,
activities offered, feedback from the residents, and the home
rating from the local government.  Once you find a few places,
go for a visit before you choose.

Action Plan For Creating Retirement Wealth

As retirement approaches, many of us may find that we have insufficient retirement funds to support us in our golden years. An action plan is needed to correct this problem.  While still having 10 to 15 years of working life left, here are some items to include in the action plan:

1. Simplify your life.

When the young ones finish college and get out on their own, you might not need a big house. Look at downsizing.  Conduct a thorough review of your assets and expenses. You may find you can cut spending significantly.

2. Readjust your lifestyle.

There are real benefits in returning to a lifestyle of just you and your partner. One big challenge maybe to relearn your partner.  This will give you both another activity to grow.  With 10 to 15 years left before retirement, another challenge to consider generating more income for retirement.

3. Save more money.

Start increasing your savings until the day when you are ready to retire.

At the time of retirement, instead of starting to live off your retirement funds, consider getting another career going that can generate another ten to fifteen years of income. With good budget management, you might be able to bank at least one entire income if not more and put all of that money back into the retirement fund.

4. Find a good investment adviser.

Another part of the action plan should be to find a good investment adviser.  They can help you find ways to shelter the extra income, protecting your dollars from our tax system until you are ready to use it. The great news is that your push to simplify your life and looking for another way to have revenue generation late in life can lead to a excellent retirement budget that can benefit you as you enjoy the coming leisure years.

5. Find a money generator that you can stay with.

There are second or even third careers that you can find that can become a good source of supplemental income after you retire. Start now looking for a potential retirement career which you like and can do even after you retire.  Think about a home based business where you are your own boss and can continue to work as long as you want to and are up to it.

Retirement careers can be part time jobs.  Consider using the expertise from your primary career and or consider jobs that are non-taxing.  They have the benefit of adding to your retirement fund, keeping you active and enjoying life in your golden years.

When To Plan For Retirement

Most people tend to put off retirement planning for another day.  But it really makes sense to get started as early as possible.

Time spent now will allow you to develop your retirement action plan which includes setting your financial goals.

Working for a company or for yourself, take a close look at your retirement annuity.  How much money you are putting in? How much will you have once retired? Is it enough?  Find out what your options are for payout?

You much consider inflation and the lifestyle you want.   Will you have enough to live on and do the things you want to do?  A financial adviser can be a great asset for this type of information.

It’s never too soon to start thinking and planning for the “good years” to come.  A good rule of thumb is that during the last ten years before retirement, you can catch up in your allocation of funds for your retirement.

If you haven’t started putting money into your plan, then start as soon as possible.  The more you can save the better.

More questions?  What do I want to do for the rest of my life?  Will you have a full or semi retirement?  It might be a wonderful thought to sit back every day with your feet up, but if you are accustomed to an active life, you’ll get bored fairly quickly.

Activities and time planning is another important area to think about and plan for retirement.  What about, where do I live and how about keeping and starting new friendships?

So start by thinking as basic as everyday activities.  Activities just as gardening, sports, art, travel, hobbles, etc can all bring a new dimension into your life.

Start planning today!
